Great Moscow Food Drive

The Latah County Human Rights Task Force and the City of Moscow Human Rights Commission are sponsoring the Great Moscow Food Drive on Saturday, August 2, 8am to 1pm with donation sites at the Farmer’s Market near Friendship Square, and at East City Park, corner of Hayes and Third St.
Donations of non-perishable food and household and toiletry items are requested and will be given to the Moscow Food Bank and Westside Food Pantry. Donations of cash and checks will also be accepted with checks made to the Latah County Human Rights Task Force. Checks can be sent to the Task Force at Box 8613, Moscow or donated on the Task Force website www.humanrightslatah.org. The cash donations are divided among the two food banks and the Weekend Food for Kids program that provides over 120 free bags of food for children each week. This year $200 from the cash donations will go to the Deary Foodbank. All donations through August 31 on the Task Force website will go to the Food Drive. Fresh produce will also be collected from any Farmers Market vendors who wish to take part.
The Great Moscow Food Drive is an annual event started in 2000 when the Task Force learned about the increased need for food supplies in area food banks in mid-summer. According to Joann Muneta, chair of the Latah County Human Rights Task Force, having the Task Force and the City Human Rights Commission working together on this project
helps make it a true community or more information contact latahtf@gmail.com effort. “Each year we are amazed and inspired by the generosity of our residents,” said Muneta.
